What Tree Falling Is

Tree falling is the controlled, professional cutting and dropping of standing trees — for hazard removal, view clearing, selective harvest, building site preparation, or fire mitigation. At Cascade Excavation, our fallers are experienced, insured, and equipped for the trees we have around here: tall lodgepole, dense Douglas fir, big ponderosa, and the occasional stubborn juniper. We drop trees where we want them to land, buck them into the lengths you want, and clean up the slash. Tight spots near structures, leaners over driveways, and big timber in remote backcountry — we handle all of it.

When You Need It

You need professional tree falling whenever a tree is too big, too close to something valuable, or too dangerous for a chainsaw and a hope. Common cases: a hazard tree leaning toward your home, cabin, garage, fence, power line, or driveway. Dead or dying trees that will eventually fall on their own (the question is just where). View clearing, where you want to drop a specific set of trees to open a sightline toward Lake Cascade, the West Mountains, or the valley. Selective harvest, where you're thinning a stand and want certain trees down without damaging the ones that stay. Building site clearing where the trees have to come down before site prep starts. And storm cleanup after a wind event drops or snaps trees across your property.

Our Process

Every tree comes down with a plan. We assess the tree (lean, weight distribution, dead limbs, rot, surrounding hazards), the landing zone (what's below it, what's nearby), and the escape route for the faller. We use proper notch and back-cut technique, wedges when needed, and a winch line or skid steer pull when the lean is wrong or the consequences of a bad drop are too high. For trees near structures or power lines, we section-fall — cutting from the top down in pieces with rigging — instead of dropping them whole. Once down, we buck the tree into the lengths you want (firewood rounds, log lengths for a mill, or whatever you specify) and either stack on-site, haul off, or pile and burn the slash. We're insured, and we'll show you the certificate before we start.
